Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. (1 Corinthians 13: 4-8a)

This passage, written by Paul, was read at my wedding (18 years ago). It is quite a challenging list for anyone, but the truth and wisdom of describing love in the way is amazing.

I am thinking that this applies certainly to my love for Sandy and also our four children. Does it also apply to a small circle of true friends?

New Ringtones

I am finding one of the best ways to learn some Hindi is by watching Hindi films with English subtitles.
I recently had the idea of changing the specially ringtone for when my wife calls to the title song from
Hum Dil De Chuek Sanam - it means "my heart, it belongs to you" That is such a true and meaningful statement
about my wife, and everytime she calls, I am reminded our love, and of our commitment in marriage!

WWJD

Yesterday I spoke to the children of our church in a short segment of the regular church service, and the topic was to do what Jesus did. I quoted John 20:21 - where Jesus tells his closest followers: "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." In other words, as God the Father sent Jesus to the earth in human form, followers of Jesus should act the same way, do the same things, and obey the same principles as Jesus. In the 1990's it was popular for men and women to wear a bracelet that had the letters "WWJD" on it.

The letters stand for What Would Jesus Do? I try to keep this in mind when I live because he is such a model of love and care and compassion.

Simplifying My Life

I am not very smart, so I need to follow a simple plan with only a short set of instructions.
I have found that the answer Jesus gave when he was asked by Jewish leaders what us the greatest commandment of the Jewish Law.

Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matthew 22:37-40

So the challenge is how to be devoted (bhakti) to God fully, and to figure out who my neighbors are so I can love and serve them. Because of globalization and the ease of travel and communication over great distances and between different cultures, everyone is my neighbor!

Hello

I am excited to enter the blogosphere and share thoughts and musings.
Each of our lives is a journey, and it is very valuable to reflect and consider our lives
in the context of the increasingly globalized world in which we live.
